2008 was the inaugural year in an ongoing, aspirational project dedicated to the observation of the sun every time it crosses the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others while ringing bells. It is based on the conviction that something as inarguable as the movement of the earth can be used as a point of unity and awareness among large groups of people who might otherwise find it impossible to agree. Tuesday, February 5. First PUBLIC BELL RINGING EVENT
Come down to the parking lot on the Great Highway in San Francisco (across from the Beach Chalet) near the end of Fulton Street.
7:00 - 7:30 AM (sun rises at 7:11)
5:15 - 5:45 PM (sun sets at 5:36)
Bring bells if you have them.

I wish I could have come! We rang with you in spirit at Meridian...
Today I gave Nelson the camera for a change and walked with him and Sadat to Grace Cathedral where he filmed us. To my surprise (and delight), today Anne and Tony brought in a big yak bell that they borrowed from a woman who owns a shop in Pt. Reyes. Sadat wanted to ring it so I rang another old small(er) animal bell (maybe for a sheep?) that Anne brought in a couple weeks ago. On our walk up to Grace Cathedral, we saw the famous San Francisco twins, walking arm in arm, headed straight for us! I mustered up my courage and asked them to join us in ringing, explaining your project. They smiled and said, "sorry we're busy enough as it is!" Oh well. So here we are, twin-less.
