2008 was the inaugural year in an ongoing, aspirational project dedicated to the observation of the sun every time it crosses the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others while ringing bells. It is based on the conviction that something as inarguable as the movement of the earth can be used as a point of unity and awareness among large groups of people who might otherwise find it impossible to agree. SUNSET 2/24/08

Barcelona from a Balcony

We arrived in Barcelona this evening. It's warmer here and there are bells in the air. Las Hermanitas de los Pobres (http://www.camineo.info/news/142/ARTICLE/2914/2007-05-16.html) is the name of the convent across the street, and they toll bells every half hour. On the hour, they ring the number of hours for the time. On the half hour there is just one little dong.It's a wonderful way to keep track of the time.
