March 28, 2020. Sunset 7:29 PM. San Francisco, CA. The beach parking lot was closed and the weather misty and grey. Not so great to watch the sunset on the beach as our friends Elisabeth and Richard wanted to do this evening. So, they came by to vigorously ring the big bell, bringing their Gankogui bell from a recent trip to Africa. Completing this evening’s “Six Feet of Separation Ensemble” was a surprise visit from Bernie and Mardi who live 14 blocks away. They probably could have stayed home and still been able to hear the racket we were making tonight. I apologize to my neighbors and promise this is the most boisterous piece in our repertoire and will only be performed on special occasions. Day 7- Ringing the big bell out on the sidewalk for as long as we are sheltering in place.
