2008 was the inaugural year in an ongoing, aspirational project dedicated to the observation of the sun every time it crosses the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others while ringing bells. It is based on the conviction that something as inarguable as the movement of the earth can be used as a point of unity and awareness among large groups of people who might otherwise find it impossible to agree. Day 50 – Mother’s Day

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers today. It’s been almost 25 years since my Mother and I celebrated this day together, and I've missed searching through that section of cards in the store every year. My mother was a lovely, funny and smart woman, and I enjoy thinking of her and celebrating her memory today in a world so different from the one she had known.
