Hannah wandering around the block at sunset

April 5, 2025. Sunset 7:36 PM. San Francisco, CA. part 1- I recognize those flowers from somewhere nearby. Also, the sleeve of Norman's jacket which Hannah borrowed-- Nobody is really prepared for the weather here.
part 2- The view from Ginger and Hannah ringing by the ocean a few minutes later as Norman and I ring at home up the street. “Tomorrow we will ring together"

“Spring Equinox Ambient Bird”

March 20, 2025. Sunset 7:21 PM. Berkeley, CA.
This was an unexpectedly warm evening (until the sun set) with a gentle Equinox performance of Wendy Reid’s “Spring Equinox Ambient Bird” piece. This was the moment just after the piece finished as it coincided with the sunset at the Indian Rock Park— Even a slight walk up the slope offered a surprisingly wide-angle view of the Bay and Bay Bridge and distant horizon on the Pacific Ocean. Happy Spring!!!

Sunset with Invented Instruments

September 5, 2024. Sunset 7:31 PM. San Francisco, CA.
Thank you, Kathleen Maguire for your invitation to join in the Invented Instruments day at SFMOCA. What a wonderful group of artists and fun day of performances and interaction with the visitors. I wish I could have been there to celebrate with you all in person.

However, many thanks to my dear friend and fabulous musician, Jenny Holland for stepping up and ringing the sundown with everyone there at the end of the event. It looks like everyone had a great time that day.

Strawberry moon rising over East River Sunset Solstice--

June 20. 2024. Sunset 8:30 PM. East River, NY.

Beautiful Strawberry moon rising over Brooklyn on the 20th, nice cool breeze and sprinkling of many little bells-- It was a magical moment.
Thank you everyone who came along for either or both rides across the East River to celebrate the sunset on the Solstice and the next day as well.
FYI- While the sunset is holding for 16 days at 8:30, the daylight has begun shrinking by several seconds a day-- thanks to the steadily, but later creeping sunrise. For those of us who are NOT early risers, it's pretty wonderful having the sunset at the same time for over 2 weeks.

No Photo- HOORAY!!!

December 29, 2023. Sunset 4:59 PM. San Francisco, CA.
Thank you Mardi and Matt (and Kiki) and Tony-- This is a first and very exciting moment for the dailybell.

Big sunset moment. No photo available!!! HOORAY!

Anyone who has been following over the years will be familiar with Mardi, Matt (and his dog, Kiki) and Tony-- So I leave it to your imagination to picture them together in some configuration around the bell among the weeds and near the tree and the red truck ringing together.

This evening was the first time (that I know of) in the almost 16 years of ringing along with the sun(rise) and set that people gathered and rang the bell that's now set in stone (well, cement) in front of our house-- when we weren't there.

elevator tickets for the sunset(s)???

December 26, 2023. Sunset 5:36 PM. Burj Khalifa- Dubai.

The ticket says it's good for 2 sunsets. Which one are we not looking at???
"Not quite sunset"
- Joe P.
OK-- Here's the explanation!!
check here for floor plan We were 125 stories high in that pic (but that’s not really the top) That same link sort of explains the 2 sunsets…see the Ramadan Observance section:
On the higher floors, the sun is seen for several minutes after it has set at ground level. Those living above the 80th floor should wait two extra minutes to break their Ramadan fast, and those living above the 150th floor should wait three minutes.

The sun sets 2 minutes later at the top and the elevator is really fast so you can watch the sunset on the ground then take the elevator to the top and watch it again.
