Day 2 driving west

December 19, 2020. Sunset 4:32 PM. Hartsville, TN.

Day 2 driving west—Sunset on 1-40 outside of Nashville. When I looked up Hartsville, I selected - Is Hartsville TN a good place to live? the Answer— “Based on FBI crime data, Hartsville is not one of the safest communities in America relative to Tennessee, Hartsville has a crime rate that is higher than 52% of the state’s cities and towns of all sizes.”
Who decided that the FBI crime data determined the criteria for a “good place to live”? Google??

“Henry, Matt and Gus” - NT.
Plus, we’ve gained another minute of sunlight at the end of the day. Henry was one of the first sunset bell ringing fans when we first started in 2008. I think he was 3 yrs. old at the time.

Heading back- Day 1- Roanoke or bust

December 18, 2020. Sunset 4:40 PM. Kutztown, PA.

1st day on the road driving from Brooklyn to San Francisco. It’s snowy and cold but the roads are clear. Sundown in Kutztown! Heading west on I78. First stop – Roanoke, VA. I just finished blasting the first hotel room I’ve stayed in since Covid with Ultraviolet light and ozone. It’s not so stinky after airing it out for 30 minutes and the room is very fresh and cold.

On the road again

Heading back to the West Coast. This time - not so leisurely. I would like to make it by Christmas. This time I'll be driving the Southern route because there's snow everywhere up North and I'm in a wiggly little truck that slips and slides when the road is even a little bit wet.
Norman is my travel agent and will be booking hotels along the way for me. I am hoping for ground floor rooms with windows that open as I do not want to ride in an elevator and have too much stuff to carry up the stairs. I'm bringing an ultra-violet air sterilizer, my own pillow, and a hefty dose of anxiety.

I'll be posting along the way and as stressful as this trip has been- I still love a road trip. Can you believe it?

My father loved to drive, and he was very fond of this old car. Here it goes on the way to the crusher. A very sad ending for this beloved holder of so many shared memories and journeys.
