Happy Solstice!

December 21, 2020 PM. Sunset 5:10 PM. Deming, NM

Still making my way across the country. View across from the gas station just outside Deming on I-10- joined by my friend Mary on Facetime (those are the 200 lbs. of sand in the back of the truck- in case of snow). The sunset was so beautiful—that tiny square is not even a place holder— The same view a bit later, melting into the Solstice twilight.

Busy evening for the Winter Solstice. As if that wasn’t enough cosmic action- there was the "great conjunction" of Saturn and Jupiter” not seen since 1226! These photos taken from Oakland—Thanks Krys and Chien. What a beautiful night.

2020 December 21, Sunrise, Solstice, Sunset

Rain, rain.
More rain.
A Seattle Winter Solstice,
a sunrise,
a sunset and a great conjunction.
The planets dance.
A difficult year like we could never have imagined...
is finally, ending, crashing.
Light.
Is.

Ring Out Solstice

December 21, 2020. Sunset 6:00 PM. Big Bend, West Texas. The last rays of solstice sun from a sky island in the Big Bend Region of far west Texas.
- Alyce Santoro

Ring Out, Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull:

Now is the solstice of the year
Winter is the glad song that you hear
Seven maids move in seven time
Have the lads up ready in a line
Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells
Join together 'neath the mistletoe,
By the holy oak whereon it grows
Seven druids dance in seven time
Sing the song the bells call, loudly chiming
Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells
Ring out, ring out the solstice bells
Ring out, ring out the solstice bells
Praise be to the distant sister sun,
Joyful as the silver planets run
Seven maids move in seven time
Sing the song the bells call, loudly chiming
Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out
